19 floors…

Ran some errands for my mum yesterday. Got to the building, saw people milling around the lift lobby, and asked a security guard what happened. “Fire Alarm Drill,” he said “so the lifts are turned off.” That was OK, so I went for a quick cup of tea.

But when I came back, the lifts were still not moving. Because I was pressed for time, I grit my teeth and headed for the staircase.

My destination was on the 19th floor. ’nuff said.

Surprisingly, I got to the 19th floor in 6 minutes, and my legs were still functional after that. I thought I’d collapse, but I didn’t. I was sweating profusely of course, but otherwise I was quite alright.

I take this experience to mean that:

1) What Matt Furey said about Hindu Squats being a good cardio work-out is true. Not that I doubt him, mind you, but it’s always nice to have some confirmation in MY life. 🙂

2) My legs are stronger than I thought. As I said before in my previous post, I am trying not to push my legs too hard in my daily training. But now I see that my legs are fine, I’ve got no muscle aches even after yesterday’s stairclimbing.

I think that means I’m a little fitter than I originally thought. That’s good, because it means I can have my usual budo training AND add on more physical conditioning.

It’s all part of my plan to get myself ready to run Budo Taijutsu classes. More on that some other day. I’ve got some other stuff to handle first for now.
