Last Week’s Lesson

February 25, 2009

Last week, Justyn had me start off the lesson by showing a technique. He’d then springboard from there into some other stuff.

I decided to make things a little difficult for whoever was gonna follow after me. I started off with Nichi Geki from Shinden Fudo Ryu, and when they finished up with that quickly before my allotted 20 mins, I showed them Seion from Kukishinden Ryu. All about dealing with throws.

By the way, I haven’t been officially taught those waza. I just keep watching them been done. When I first flubbed up Nichi Geki and muttered “it looked easier on the video when Soke did it” my Uke said “Where’s the KY?” Wonder what he meant…

And after that they went back to punching issues again. 🙂

Sometimes, when I think about all the Ryu-ha stuff we have in the Bujinkan, I get really overwhelmed. 6 Ryu-ha’s material officially released, I don’t really have my sanshin and kihon happo as fluid as I’d like, and all the other stuff just sitting there, crying out “try me, JJ, try me!” Oh boy!

Anyway, I don’t think it’s my turn to start the lesson off this week. I’d like to see what the other guys in class do and give myself the challenge of continuing on whatever theme they develop. But just in case, I’ll go look through some Koto Ryu stuff.

Let’s see what happens in class tonight!
